The COVID-19 pandemic has centered questions about how to ensure the health and safety of those who live, work, and study in New York City and around the world. Since the lockdown in mid-March, we have learned new ways of interacting, learning, and working. We have shared knowledge, assumptions, aspirations, and anxieties. Now comes the time of re-working our civic infrastructure, re-building our structures, and re-thinking our public space. We need to re-conceptualize the work done for government agencies and private sector companies, while addressing how they both carry out their mission.

The lecture series, “AEC Industry Experiences from COVID-19: What We Did | What We Are Doing | What We Need To Do” will address past, current and future initiatives, constraints and budgets. This series is being organized to identify how best to restructure our operations and how to design, construct, and manage buildings, infrastructure, and civic spaces, emphasizing social impact, sustainability, resilience, and public health, in addition to cost, schedule, quality, and safety. The goal of discussion is candid analyses of how the capital program, for both essential buildings and necessary infrastructure, has changed and might change more as we all adapt to a world turned upside down by new needs and new perspectives.

Join us for the first installation which will feature a short presentation by the lead speaker followed by an opportunity for group discussion. Other industry thought leaders, from major assets owners as well as engineering, architectural and construction management firms from cities around the world−Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Paris, Seoul, or Singapore, for example−will add to the conversation. Many of these firms are both local and global, thinking and working locall, designing and building around the world.

Speaker: Thomas J. Foley, PE, CCM ENV SP, Deputy Commissioner for Public Buildings, NYC Department of Design and Construction
