Non-Destructive Testing & Evaluation (NDT&E) to Maintain Assets and Infrastructure

Non-Destructive Testing & Evaluation (NDT&E) can be a valuable tool for diagnosing the causes and severity of failures that can compromise the performance or longevity of constructed facilities. NDT&E techniques harness cutting-edge technologies to assess and track the health of masonry, concrete, and steel, roofs, and coatings. This course will explain the measurements and data that can be collected, conditions that define what test to use, equipment and standard protocols and procedures used, and how clients use quantified data to rate problem severity and prioritize their budgetary allocations.

Speaker:
Barry Drogin, Director of Non-Destructive Testing and Evaluation, SUPERSTRUCTURES Engineers+Architects

Barry Drogin holds Bachelor and Master degrees in Electrical Engineering from The Cooper Union and has training per ASNT-TC-1A in infrared thermography and ground penetrating radar applications. Working in the transportation and infrastructure industry since 1998, he has published and presented papers on cutting-edge technologies. His recent memberships include ACI Technical Committee 228 and RILEM Technical Committee 216. At SUPERSTRUCTURES, he administers their NDT&E Quality Management System, trains their staff, and is personally involved in performing field investigations for private clients and public agencies such as the School Construction Authority, DASNY, SUNY, CUNY, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Drogin has also established an in-house NDT&E laboratory, where his current areas of research include structural health monitoring using wireless remote monitoring sensors, new applications of active thermography, and new leak detection techniques.
