The committees of AIA New York are the foundations from which the Chapter positions itself in the field of architecture, whether through discussion, advocacy, policy making and development, event and exhibition planning, or other endeavors.

Committees meet monthly, usually at the Center for Architecture. AIA members, AIA associate members, and general public are all welcome to participate.

The Housing Committee is inviting the Planning & Urban Design Committee and its members to attend this meeting to participate in a workshop with NYCHA on its Connected Communities initiative.

Agenda

  • Update of Committee Activities
  • Presentation by NYCHA on the Connected Communities Initiative / NYCHA 2.0 given by Delma Palma, AIA and other NYCHA staff
Connected Communities is an initiative in the Capital Projects Division of NYCHA. Its focus includes strategies to better connect residents to the surrounding neighborhoods through the design of the physical environment. This initiative looks to use best urban design practices throughout NYCHA’s portfolio in areas such as: land use planning, ground floor activation, open space improvements, programming, and resiliency efforts. NYCHA will elaborate about its various projects and partnerships, and introduce the Connected Communities Guidebook, an upcoming NYCHA publication that embodies the principles, guidelines and goals of the Initiative.
  • Workshop to follow presentation
Breakout groups among committee members will meet to discuss and give feedback to NYCHA about the initiative.

If you have questions or are considering attending a meeting for the first time, contact each committee’s co-chairs for more information at aiany.org/committees.
