Join the 2018 AIANY Civic Leadership Program team at the Center for Architecture as they showcase a spectrum of current civic engagement practices in New York City.

In September 2018, the Civic Leadership Program team created a survey, which was sent to partners and principals at AIANY member firms. The survey focused on three major areas, civic engagement, equity, and political activism, and how New York City-based firms support these activities within their practices. The full survey results will be published later this year.

Highlights of the survey’s findings will be shared at the event to provoke a discussion on these topics among invited guests and attendees. Speakers will explore what the survey’s themes mean to them and to the public, and why they are of consequence for architects and designers.

Attendees will be exposed to a range of approaches for integrating civic impact into practice. They will develop an understanding of how to increase civic impact through practice, identifying existing design-education based strategies that contribute to strengthening communities.

Speakers:
Chris Rice, Senior Urban Planner, WXY
Wes Walker, Design Principal, Studio Gang
Priyanka Shah, NY Chapter Steward, The Architecture Lobby

Moderator:
Molly Heintz, Editor in Chief, Oculus magazine
