In 2007, RKLA joined MBB Architect’s team on a phased project to fully restore the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Complex. The multi-year restoration included exterior stone conservation, interior stone, wood, and plaster restoration, stained glass stabilization and conservation, and landscape restoration. All mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were replaced and the complex is heated and cooled with a new, nine-well geothermal plant.

RKLA’s work includes the Perimeter Gardens with 7 new mature columnar Hornbeam trees, bluestone walkways and curbs, and the integration of the geothermal plant and wells. The Memorial Garden with its new bluestone fountain and the Madison Avenue Garden are also part of the project’s scope.

Robin Key of RKLA Studio and Mary Burnham of Murphy, Burnham, and Buttrick Architects will lead ASLA on a tour through the gardens and the interior renovation of the Cathedral. Both Robin and Mary have been elected to the Fellow’s Councils of ASLA and AIA (respectively) in 2018.

The tour will meet at the top of the transept steps on 51st Street between 5th Ave. and Madison Ave.
