The Danish Cleantech Hub is delighted to host Design for Circularity: Buildings as Material Banks. As part of this panel discussion and workshop session, we will examine how circular building design, solutions, and materials can transform the industry from its current “throw away” model.

The event will dig into some of the central issues that must be addressed as to make it possible for both existing buildings and new constructions to become material banks. Topics will include upcycling and reuse of building materials, material passports, product innovation, and design for disassembly.

Buildings as Material Banks:
Considering buildings as “material banks” means seeing these as repositories of valuable, high quality materials that can easily be taken apart and recovered. With this vision, the building itself is considered a materialized savings account for material resources through which building materials, products, and components are temporarily ‘deposited’ into a functional element or part of the building.

The transition towards a circular and dynamic built environment will require several systemic changes, material innovations, improved reuse opportunities, new design practices, and increased knowledge on material flows. Join us as we embark on this exciting journey.
