Owen is at the forefront of human-robot interface design and has been one of the leaders pushing robotics in the creative industry. The Consortium is excited to host this pioneer and innovator for a unique presentation this May.

As computational power, sensing, and communication become more pervasive the traditional tradeoffs in the design of intelligent agents will break down. New design methodologies are needed to efficiently engineer systems able to effectively navigate a world smeared across multiple physical, digital, and organizational layers. Part of the solution are new interfaces that enable machines and humans to better complement one-another and work on each other’s terms. Existing work on such interfaces will be discussed along with technologies and concepts that are useful for effective implementations. Several novel augmented reality interfaces for robotics systems meant to enable artistic expression will be presented. Finally, based on review of the current state of the art there will be speculation on the future of robotics.
