This program is designed to be two three-hour sessions, held at the Center for Architecture. Session One will focus on energy code requirements and will include a workshop to allow participants to work through typical energy code reporting requirement with the help of the instructor. Session Two will focus on developing a practical understanding of current energy modeling programs and metrics, and will present ideal work-flow integration of energy analysis in a typical project schedule. Participants will be able to understand and apply early design workflows that provide energy performance feedback for projects that seek to meet or exceed the energy code.

Session One: Energy Code Lecture Format and Workshop
Friday, November 3, 2017
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

  • Review of 2016 New York City Energy Conservation Code
  • Responsibilities of architect and design teams during design
  • Strategies for streamlined energy code compliance reporting
  • Common NYC Department of Building objections
  • Construction phase responsibilities

Session Two: Beyond Code Workshop
Friday, November 17, 2017
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

  • Introduction to energy modeling, programs that can be used, purpose of the programs, purpose of the model, modeling standards (process loads and building schedules)
  • Client perspective – don’t get lost in the weeds, present most relevant data and information to be used to make decisions
  • Setting the performance goal early – code compliance vs deep energy savings
  • Energy modeling – integration to the design process & owner’s project requirements (not just for Cx!)
  • Review sample reports and how to interpret data, and use the final reports to make informed design decisions

Please note interested participants must be able to attend both Friday sessions in order to register, and must attend both sessions to receive the 6.0 LU | 6.0 HSW credits. No partial credit is provided.
